The Giant Panda is from Central China. Endangered status due to a very low birthrate, forest clearing so unable to move about freely, farming and poached for their fur. Their habitat area of the south west Sichuan Province is now a world heritage site.

Located on 106 hectares of land to create the best natural habitat for the endangered panda to breed and be reared. The Panda Base is the worlds leading institute in the conservation of giant pandas. In 1987 six pandas were rescued from the wild. The numbers have now increased to 83 with genetic diversity sustained by the exchange of preserved genetic material with other facilities.
The Chengdu Panda Base works through scientific research, breeding, education, protection, international relations and environment construction.
